As kids, we naturally practiced things that challenged our balance. Walking heel to toe on a curb, jumping up and down on one leg, and spinning around in circles were fun to do but they also made our balance better. As adults, we stop participating in these activities and our balance begins to decline. That decline becomes more rapid the older we get. As age progresses, it becomes crucial to improve balance in order to reduce the risk of falls. A Fall may lead to serious injury which can burden loved ones, limit our ability to care for those who rely on us, and even progress us more quickly toward death.
At Control Physical Therapy, we can treat you with balance exercises to decrease your risk for falling. We also offer customized programs to improve your ability to maintain equilibrium. In addition, we offer gait training therapy to improve your ability to stand and walk. Through strengthening of the muscles and joints, improving posture, developing muscle memory and retraining the legs for repetitive function and motion we will help you maintain an active lifestyle.
What if my balance loss is caused by vertigo?
Vertigo, like dizziness, is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Vertigo and dizziness are common issues that can be caused by various sources. We will work with your physician to establish what is the appropriate course to get you feeling better. Depending upon the cause, vertigo can be treated in as little as one visit.
